The making of LEAP

In high school I was a real havist. It took me six years.
Then HTS business administration textile in Enschede, graduated in 5 years, also with a year coming. I hoped to enjoy 'some creativity' there. Dissapointing. My first job as a logistics manager at a clothing manufacturer in Nijmegen even more so.
After that I wanted to do something much more important than work, namely to live in Amsterdam, to live, among other things; the house was already in full swing at the end of the nineties. That first. In addition, a simple job as an assistant manager at a large fashion retailer in the Kalverstraat.
After a few years of working I went back to school, looking for my creativity; Artemis, towards Fashion. After the first year they advised me to go to art school, but that was not my intention at all, so I eventually just graduated in concept styling.
Immediately afterwards, I started an agency as the pacemaker of a stylist and make-up artist collective, but within a year I found my creativity in a capricious way; my body turned out to be full of cancer. We are (still) halfway through the first two thousand years.
Worst-case scenario I still had two months to live. In those two months I made (collage) art (?) For the first time. I just wanted to leave something, just in case. But after a year of treatments, I was clean again.
I wasn't clean of booze and drugs yet, and I quit cold turkey.
Unfortunately, I turned out to be such a nuisance mentally and physically; I was declared incapacitated for work.
I started practicing hardcore kundalini yoga to boost my body and mind.
In terms of artistic inspirers I discovered Alex Gray, a transpersonal (= transcending personal) artist from New York, with whom I had quite a few similarities in life and experiences. His book 'The Mission of Art' taught me art history through the various layers of consciousness, based on another important book in my life; Spiral Dynamics by Don Beck. In recent years, this visionary book has inspired me the most for my art. This book from the 1960s is only now relevant in terms of the zeitgeist. Since we live in time of the 'tilting period', the transition aka Humpty Dumpty from one level of consciousness to another, with all the chaos that entails in the systems. But in every problem there is ultimately the solution. Just ask Einstein.
My 'circular' art is an expression of this; by 'recirculating' jute coffee bags as canvas and stretching them on a wooden frame, the circle is round again.
Through my then girlfriend I was able to learn the tricks of the trade at a publisher free-lance as a designer. She also urged me to continue in art. In the end I mainly continued to make graffiti on canvas.
I also published poetry at Brave New Books in 2019; 'New batch'. Available here at bol.com.
After a year later, pre-corona would turn out so 2020 again, post-corona; 'Carola widespread. the corona chrolnicles. Available here at bol.com.
My website with my work is based on the term 'Tat Tvam Asi, thou art That, you are That', based on what you experience in an enlightenment experience. In addition, it is my own free translation for my creative skills;
